USCG Sector San Diego continued broadcasts for the overdue 30-foot Santana sailing vessel Real Bad Gato, last seen June 17 near San Clemente Island while bound for Hawaii. The week also included a sailboat washing against the rocks at Mission Bay’s South Jetty, a suspected appendicitis case requiring medical information gathering, and parachute flare activity off Mission Bay that was clarified as a drill.

Maritime VHF traffic totaled 557 transmissions this week compared with 477 last week, an increase of about 17%. Sécurité messages decreased by about 2%, from 137 to 134, while literal Pan Pan transmissions rose by 120%, from 20 to 44, largely because of repeated overdue-vessel broadcasts. Mayday mentions remained at 0.
