This week’s standout San Diego maritime VHF traffic centered on a Coast Guard-relayed Mayday and two other serious offshore Pan Pan broadcasts.
The calls included a Mayday with unknown distress nine nautical miles east of San Clemente Island, the overdue 30-foot Santana sailboat Dos Gatos, reported overdue after last being seen June 17 near San Clemente Island while bound for Hawaii, and a 49-foot white cabin cruiser reported in possible distress south of China Point.
